Welcome! Bienvenidos! Velkommen!
In the unlikely event that someone other than kin stumbles across my little corner of the blogosphere, I have decided to write a little intro to this site. Signs of the Times is the space where I feel safe in regurgitating the interesting new things I've read and perhaps indulging in a little analysis of my own. This is my way of judging an idea's impact on myself and how it relates to the world around me, as well as helping me to process new information and fit it into my constantly changing world view.
I can't pretend to an intelligence or understanding that aren't mine. I just tend to read a lot and think a lot more.
As far as my creds go in writing a blog:
I'm a 25 year-old retail peon, working full time at a major retailer whose name will remain unsaid but whose logo used to be a smiley face. I work to support my love for books, interesting art, and an insatiable t-shirt fetish. I've been in college since 2004, but have yet to finish my first degree in history. (There's a long story there, but I'll save that for another day.) I am owned by two cats- one that lives with me here in South Dakota and another that lives with my long-suffering parents in California. I garden when the weather permits and enjoy experimenting with recipes I find on the internet.
My true passion, however, lies in studying all things related to the occult, mythology, religion, and depth psychology. A word on that. I don't practice any religion in particular, though I was raised Protestant. Perhaps as a result of reading too much, I lost my faith around about the same time that I flunked out of college for the second time (told you it was a long story!). For me, religion was not able to adequately explain the origins of evil. This is the reason I'm obsessed with the question of evil now. I have yet to find any satisfactory answers, but the journey has definitely been an interesting one.
As far as what I will cover on this site:
I don't really have any definitive plans as to what's going up here. I intend for this blog to be a useful space for me to think through writing, which may or may not work out. If other people are able to find something of interest here, great! But this blog is written by me for me, so the only audience I'm catering to is me, myself, and I. Kind of an online journal, if you will.
I think I've pretty much covered all the bases here. If not, well, good thing I'm not getting paid for professional writing, huh?
